SMI conducts medical mission for around 1,400 Kiblawan residents

Tampakan, South Cotabato - A total of 1,414 residents, mostly members of the Blaan indigenous cultural communities of Kiblawan town in Davao del Sur, recently received free healthcare services during a series of medical and dental missions conducted by Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI).

In partnership with its host municipality of Kiblawan and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), volunteer doctors and barangay health workers provided free medical consultation to 1,257 patients composed of adults, children, babies, and senior citizens. Dentists from the Municipal Health Office, meanwhile, gave free tooth extraction to 93 patients.

These missions were conducted in Barangays Bulolsalo on August 11, Tacub on August 17, Abnate on September 14, and recently-concluded in Kimlawis last October 5, 2023.

Kiblawan Municipal Mayor Jojo Calma lauded SMI’s continuous efforts to help his constituents in the isolated and disadvantaged communities, especially in the provision of free health care, access to education, infrastructure development, livelihood opportunities, capacity building programs and protection of socio-cultural values.

“Ang medical mission na ito ay malaking tulong dahil marami tayong mga kababayan na mahihirap. Napakagandang programa ito ng SMI na tumulong lalo na sa mga nangangailangan,” Calma said.

Sagittarius Mines, Inc. is committed to the goal of sustainable development, and contributes to the social and economic development of sustainable communities associated with its operations.

With all major approvals and permits secured, SMI is ready to construct and operate its Tampakan Copper-Gold Project as soon as possible. (30)
