Developing Communities - SMI turns over PhP2.1 million to LGU Malungon
Tampakan, South Cotabato - Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) on Monday, January 5, turned over PhP2.1 million to the municipal government of Malungon in Sarangani province.
Municipal Treasurer Eva Emejas received the community development fund during a simple turnover ceremony at SMI’s Mindanao Administrative Office in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
“Malaki na ang naitulong ng SMI sa pagpapabuti ng kalagayan ng mga residente ng Malungon. Malaking bagay para sa amin itong kanilang mga programang nakakabuti sa mga mamamayan ng aming bayan,” Emejas said.
As one of the host municipalities of the Tampakan Copper-Gold Project, Malungon annually receives financial assistance and social development projects from SMI as Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) aimed at improving the living conditions of mining communities.
Malungon has allocated the SDMP fund to augment the salary for locally paid teachers, provide facilities for the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Livelihood Training Center, continue their nutrition programs and campaign on Zero Open Defecation, and fund other sustainable projects and activities.
Even though the Tampakan Project has yet to begin, SMI has already invested more than PhP1.2 billion in various social development projects and activities aimed at promoting the general welfare and improving the socioeconomic, health, and educational conditions of its ten hosts and eleven neighboring communities.
