SMI has completed an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for our proposed Tampakan Project in compliance of Philippine laws and regulations. A range of technical studies were undertaken by Filipino specialists, in conjunction with international experts, as part of the EIA process.
These technical studies were used to produce two important reports:
- Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
- Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
The EIS has been prepared to meet Philippine regulatory requirements and will support our application to the Philippine Government for an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the Project.
The ESIA is an additional world class report, developed in partnership with international experts that further demonstrates our assessment of potential environmental and social impacts and has been conducted in alignment with relevant international standards.
Both the EIS and the ESIA identify the potential environmental and social impacts of our proposed mining operation and detail our comprehensive mitigation strategies that will form part of our final Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
For further information regarding the EIA process, please view our EIA Overview document.
